After
qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1985,
Richard spent some time in the offshore tax planning
industry before returning to London and working
for 9 years in the money markets, initially with
EXCO plc, the forerunner to FTSE100 company ICAP
plc, and then with Tullett & Tokyo.
Starting in a special projects role he soon become
the financial controller, followed two years later
by being appointed to the UK board.
Looking for M&A experience he moved on to
private company PetPlan where he completed the
headline grabbing sale to Cornhill for 40 times
earnings.
Headhunted to be CFO of Fidelity’s stricken
brokerage business he saw through a significant
turnaround and subsequent business sale to Barclays
Stockbrokers.
More turnaround and business sale experience
followed whilst at Bradstock Group plc, the listed
insurance broker.
Joining Patsystems plc, and working alongside
entrepreneur David Jones, the founder of stockbrokers
“Sharelink” he dealt with a hostile
shareholder action, a business turnaround, the
re-listing on AIM and the return of capital to
shareholders.
In 2005 he worked alongside two gaming entrepreneurs
to found Trident Gaming Plc. The three executive
directors used the company to acquire a number
of internet gaming assets securing hedge-fund
backing for doing so. It prepared for both an
AIM and TSX flotation.
Significant improvements were made to the business
by the three directors, and this ultimately led
to the well publicised sale to former FTSE100
company, PartyGaming Plc, for €105m –
three times the acquisition price.
Richard formed ipo grooming.com to capitalise
on this extensive turnaround and business sale
experience. With an extensive network of professional
contacts in the law, banking, broking, financial
pr, and accounting, Richard oversees all assignments
and mentors the board – particularly the
finance team – on ensuring that they present
a first-class image to the City and financial
or trade buyers.
